YWLA unveils new STEM Center

The Young Women’s Leadership Academy unveiled its new STEM Center on Thursday morning.

XTO Energy, Diamondback Energy and the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation teamed up to provide YWLA students with the high-tech equipment.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, while women are nearly half of the workforce, they are still vastly underrepresented in the STEM workforce, making up only 27 percent of all STEM workers, according to a news release.

STEM receives special emphasis at YWLA, inspiring an interest in science and engineering at a young age. The new STEM center features cutting edge tools like a 3D printer, littleBits and Snap Circuits, which help budding young scientists and engineers practice critical thinking skills, solve complex problems collaboratively and expand their horizons.
