Why My Generation Gives Me Hope

Recently, we reached out to students in our network and asked them to describe why their generation gives them hope for the future. We are excited to share this perspective from Melena (YWLA Las Vegas, ’26).

People have looked down upon this generation, but we will stride through their negativity.

For this generation, there have been studies that people are working on to stop pollution and fix global warming, bring back extinct animals, or even create new life forms to help our environment. To keep our earth going and growing, we need to treat it like a community for it’s our heart and soul. This can be helped by even the smallest thing if we all work together by recycling and throwing away our trash in the respective areas instead of littering. If we continue to throw our trash on the sidewalk, around lakes, rivers, streams, and oceans, we will continue to further the problem instead of solving it.

I have gained confidence that this generation can push through all of the wrongdoings of other generations and start anew. I believe this generation can have a better future. People I have worked with over the years have shown me they can push past anything negative if we can all work and bring ourselves together. We have the ability to speak with passion and with our true voice.

A quote by Hellen Keller says, “Alone, we can do so little; together, we can do so much.” This quote helps me understand, and hopefully others, that no one can ever fight alone in a battle of hardships, but together we can overcome any of our obstacles.
