Meet Angela Nimoh: Director, Securitization Finance at RBC Capital Markets

Paying It Forward: A Conversation with Angela Nimoh

What first drew you to Student Leadership Network, and what made you decide to get involved?

My involvement grew naturally out of volunteering at SLN events through RBC Capital Markets. I was first asked to sit on a panel for TYWLS at the Workplace, and it was an easy yes. As an immigrant twice over, the emphasis on education was instilled into me from an early age, so I’ve always been deeply compelled by SLN’s mission of mentorship and education for underrepresented populations.

I was immediately impressed, not just by SLN’s mission, but by the enthusiasm and brilliance of every student I met. From there, I volunteered at an alumni networking happy hour and later at Cool Careers Potential Paths, and each time I left more invested than before. Being around such an inspiring team made deeper involvement feel like a natural next step. As Ann and Yolonda often say, “If you’re ever having a bad day, go to the schools.” I couldn’t agree more.

What is it about the work of TYWLS and Girls’ Education that resonates most with you?

What resonates most with me is the whole-girl approach, building leadership skills and confidence alongside academic excellence. Being book smart is wonderful, but soft skills are the propelling fuel for long-term success. This is especially true as we think about the rapidly changing landscape of skills driven by AI and technological advances. The ability to communicate, lead, collaborate, and adapt will set these young women apart, and that is exactly what TYWLS cultivates. It’s not just about preparing students for college; it’s about preparing them for life.

What does philanthropy and giving back mean to you personally?

To me, it’s simple: you can’t pay it back, you can only pay it forward. I’ve benefited from so many people who invested their time and wisdom in me, and the most meaningful way to honor that is by doing the same for the next generation. Giving back is not just an act of generosity; it’s a responsibility and a privilege. When I volunteer, mentor, or contribute to organizations like SLN, I am actively participating in a cycle of empowerment that I believe makes all of us stronger.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received, and who gave it to you?

My parents, both first-generation college students, always said, “Education is the one thing no one can ever take away from you.” That messaging shaped me profoundly, giving me a strong sense of identity, purpose, and possibility. It taught me that knowledge isn’t just a tool for career advancement, it’s a form of empowerment that endures regardless of circumstance, and it’s a big part of why organizations like SLN resonate so deeply with me.

You’ve been such a wonderful champion in growing our relationship with RBC. Could you tell us about RBC’s approach to giving back, and what philanthropy looks like within the firm?

A core value at RBC is a deep commitment to helping our communities prosper. RBC Capital Markets has supported hundreds of youth-focused charities over the years, and our partnership with SLN centers on our shared purpose of making a positive and measurable impact in the communities where we live and work. I think SLN and RBC Capital Markets share a truly compelling mission and it’s a collaboration that feels both purposeful and deeply aligned.
