First Lady of France Visits TYWLS East Harlem

This fall, TYWLS East Harlem had a visit from a special guest, First Lady of France, Brigitte Macron. A life-long educator and advocate for girls’ leadership, First Lady Macron, toured some of the classrooms, met with teachers and students, and engaged in a discussion with the tenth-grade class.

The student moderators–Nina, Taylor, Chaise, and Tahira–led the interview and asked questions about her experience as First Lady, what inspires her, and her thoughts on cyberbullying and disability rights–both important issues that Macron has committed to addressing. Following the discussion, Mrs. Macron was presented with a copy of It’s All About the Girls, a commemorative book celebrating 25 years of The Young Women’s Leadership Schools and its amazing community.

Our sincere thanks to Christy Ferer, Founder and CEO of Vidicom, who invited First Lady Macron to visit the school and facilitated this opportunity for our students. We are also grateful to the French Consulate for their diligent work in making this event possible. Click through the slideshow below and see some moments from the program:
