International Youth Day
International Youth Day is Friday, August 12th! International Youth Day is an awareness day set by the United Nations to bring youth issues to the center of the global stage. The 2022 theme is “Intergenerational Solidarity: Creating a World for All Ages.” This year’s theme highlights the message that action is needed from all generations to make the world a better place! TYWLS Bronx Students Volunteer with Bronx River Alliance
In May, TYWLS Bronx students had the opportunity to volunteer with the Bronx River Alliance, a Bronx-based environmental protection organization. Students spent their Saturday volunteering at the New York Botanical Garden, where they helped portage canoes and kayaks past the Bronx river waterfall as part of the Bronx River flotilla, a huge event meant to celebrate the near-constant cleanup of the river. Students spent the day lifting and rolling 70-lb canoes!
TYWLS Queens Cleanup Effort
In April, the Hindu Tigress club at TYWLS Queens participated in a cleanup effort to serve their community. Students spend their day cleaning and picking up trash.
YWLA Student is an Advocate for March for Our Lives
Lillie – a student at our YWLN partner school Young Women’s Leadership Academy in Fort Worth – is a student advocate for March for Our Lives. March for Our Lives is a student-led nonprofit organization that is in support of gun control legislation. The organization started in response to the tragic school shooting in Parkland, Florida in 2018. The group held a rally in Fort Worth in June. Read the full news article that features Lillie here.
TYWLS Students Participate in Model UN
This spring, TYWLS Queens students participated in Model UN. Model UN is a simulation of the UN General Assembly where students perform an ambassador role and debate global issues. Model UN is an amazing opportunity for students to become well-versed in international relations.
