Midland ISD Teachers of the Year Go the Extra Mile for Students

Published in Beaumont Enterprise on April 8, 2022

Rosa Villalobos of Jane Long Elementary and Halston McCalla of Young Women’s Leadership Academy were recognized as Teachers of the Year for Midland ISD’s 2020-2021 School Year.

Both teachers share a love for their students and a desire to help them succeed. The pandemic brought with it unique challenges in the classroom and both Villalobos and McCalla went above and beyond to make an impact on their students and their campuses.

“My philosophy of education has drastically changed over the last decade, but especially over the last 12 months,” remarked McCalla. “My philosophy is really wrapped around one word now: heart. I feel deeper, love harder, offer more grace, and overall have a deeper connection with my students after such an eventful year.”
